You may have given up Hope, but I haven't... -Love, God

posted: November 19, 2009, 05:40 AM

Dr. Sheron Patterson
Highland Hills United Methodist Church

Sometimes I feel like giving up. Don’t you? It seems that nothing is going right at all. Let me tell you how jacked up my life is.

I just got laid off from my job. I really liked that job too. I can’t pay my rent, so I am back at home with the folks. I never really got along with them when I was a kid. It is worse now.. My friends avoid me now because I don’t have money for them to borrow. Now I miss being with some people who were never really no good for me. My significant other sent me text and broke up with me. This really hurts because I thought we were in love.

See what I mean? Surely your list cannot top mine. All this bad news took me straight to a place I call Hopelessville. It is a place where all I saw was darkness and failure. I felt like I would be trapped there forever. I lost my appetite and even my zest for life. It felt like I was having the life sucked out of me, and I was left with an empty shell.

That empty shell was not empty at all; it was full of pain and suffering. The question, "Why bother?", kept echoing off the walls of the shell. Maybe the question was meant to entice me further downward. I was on the brink. I was ready to throw in the towel and check out permanently. And then, one day, out of the blue, a voice answered the question that rang out in the shell. The answer was Because I care about you. That answer was the start of an unexpected and unbelievable rescue from Hopelessville. I got out of there and now I live in a place of hope, joy and expectation. I want you to come with me.

That voice that I heard was God. God actually came where I was and rescued me. I had heard church people talk about God stepping into people’s problems and helping them, but I never thought that God would care about me. I mean, God does not even know me. I do not go to church-ever. It is full of judgmental hypocrites. My parents didn’t even say the word church when I was a kid. None of my friends go to church. It was always a foreign land for me. And this God person, was, in my opinion a figment of some body’s imagination.

I haven’t gotten the guts to go church, yet, but I am very impressed with God. I mean really, what force on earth do you know has the capacity to care about every body? Even those who don’t believe? What being has the ability to know the thoughts and minds and needs of all the people on the planet? This God has literally blown my mind. What I mean is the hopelessness has been blown away and replaced with joy because somebody bigger than me and greater than me looked down and saw my pain and cared.

One day soon I will get another job. Then I can move out of my parent’s house. I will find new and better friends to hang out with, and another significant other will surface. In the meantime it feels good to feel good just hanging out with God. The God who cares.

If you're searching for new directions in life, our hearts, our minds and our doors are always open... -The people of The United Methodist Church

To The Church, The Bride of Christ.

posted: November 18, 2009, 05:33 PM

To The Church, The Bride of Christ.

How did you become a follower of Jesus Christ? Did you have a vision of Him and through
that accept Him as your Savior? Even though this has happened, if you are like most of us
someone exemplified the Love of Christ then shared about their relationship with Him and
how you could have a relationship too.

People have said, “I don’t need to share about Jesus, my life should be enough.” Scripture
tells us otherwise.

Although our lives are to be an example of our relationship with Jesus we fall short of
reaching the example of His life. The Apostles lives were remarkable in the strength
of their walk with God, but the Bible is full of examples of them sharing the Gospel
with people. (Acts 2:14-21, Acts 4:2, Acts 4:20, Acts 7, and Acts 8:26-40 are just
some examples.)

Our Mission:

Seeks to respectfully love Muslims, particularly the Hui (Way) minority of Eastern Asia, through
encouraging Muslim-Christian dialog, working to bring the Church, both in Asia and in the
West, to an awareness of the needs and opportunities for ministering to the Hui Muslim
people. Challenging and equipping the Church, especially in Eastern Asia, to love
Muslims and show how the Love of Isa (Jesus) can change all lives.

Our Strategy:

Is to challenge and equip the house church to respectfully love their indigenous Muslim (Hui)
communities and show them how the love of Isa (Jesus) can truly change all lives.

To partner with existing ministries, organizations, and individuals to respectfully love all
Muslims, but particularly the Hui.

How to Ensure Your Child’s Success at School

    November 11, 2009

    A Time-Out for Parents’ Presentation

Richardson, Texas, November 2, 2009 – Anne Vineyard, a local retired school teacher with almost forty years of teaching experience, will be the guest speaker addressing a newly-formed interactive parenting group at The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Richardson on November 11th.

Ms. Vineyard began her career by teaching in various positions overseas for several years. She then returned to the United States where she taught classes in Indiana and later at San Antonio College, San Antonio. Ms. Vineyard finished her teaching career at Highland Park High School, where for 27 years she taught advanced classes in history, social studies and humanities classes.

After spending almost four decades in the classroom, Ms. Vineyard will share insights with parents, focusing on helping children succeed in school.

“I am impressed with Anne’s ability to guide both children and parents through the many adventures encountered in the educational process. She’s a very gifted and insightful person,” stated Rev. Betsy Randall, founder of A Time-Out for Parents. “I’m excited about what she will bring to the group,” she continued. “We all want our children to succeed, but sometimes don’t know where to start.”

The program will begin at 7:00 p.m. and the public is invited to attend. Free child-care is provided, by prior reservation only. Reservations for child-care can be made by calling Sue at 972-690-0095. Participants are invited to stay for coffee, refreshments and adult conversation after the close of the presentation.

About A Time-Out for Parents – The group meets Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. at The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany and focuses on family issues from a spiritual perspective. Newcomers are welcome. Concurrent activities are scheduled for children, birth through 8th grade.

    Death by Chocolate

    November 6th & 7th, 2009

EPIPHANY TROUPERS TO PRESENT MYSTERY COMEDY

Richardson, Texas, October 13, 2009 – The Epiphany Troupers will present a theatrical production of humor and suspense, “Death by Chocolate,” by Paul Freed. Performances are scheduled for November 6th and 7th, at 7:30 p.m. at Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, 421 Custer Road, Richardson, Texas.

The owner and staff of Meadowbrook, a converted Victorian mansion in upstate New York, have high aspirations to be named the premiere health resort in the country. Having residents dropping dead is definitely not good for business! With the grand re-opening just hours away and a nosy reporter snooping around, asking awkward questions, the staff engages in a hilarious struggle to both apprehend the murderer and hide the bodies.

Filled with double entendres, dry humor and satire, the dialogue will definitely keep the audience enthralled, laughing and guessing to the very end.

The cast includes Carol Campbell (Garland) as Anne, Melissa Cavanaugh (Dallas) as Edith Chiles, John Cheney (Richardson) as Henry Meadowbrook, Gordon Collins (Richardson) as Ralph Deadwood, Lynn Davies (Richardson) as Dyslexia, Tina Johnson (Richardson) as Margaret Daniel, Paul Miller (Richardson) as Dick Simmering, Andrea Roberts (Garland) as Sweet Pea, Lannis Roberts (Dallas) as Ed Parlor, Neal Roberts (Garland) as John Stone, Helen Williams (Richardson) as Lady Riverdale, and David Whiteley (Garland) as Alfred Mellox.

Bruce C. MacPherson (Richardson) is directing, assisted by Mary Anne Craig-Collins (Richardson) and Jeff Stillings (Richardson), as technical director.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and may be purchased at the church office during business hours, or at the door prior to performance time.

Proceeds from the production go to support Epiphany’s Vacation Bible School and outreach programs – a free-will offering will be taken to provide additional support.

Complimentary desserts and coffee will be served following each performance.

About the Troupers – The Epiphany Troupers have been performing since 1992 and most recently have presented the comedy/mysteries “The Butler Did It,” “Hidden Meanings,” “Thirteen Past Midnight,” “Losing Patients” and “The Soapy Murder Case.” Proceeds from Trouper performances go to support various Epiphany programs.

Prophetess Champion releases a long and awaited seasoned word; with Prophetic revelation for the Church, “4 such a time as this.” This Book reveals how the world is yet dying because the people of God have misrepresented the Church of God; escorting Holiness out the door, and inviting, giving a Church bulletin, and a Leadership position to Tolerance as it walks in the door.

It is a word of conviction for the Leadership of God’s House. “The oil flows from the head… down”: When a migraine headache is not treated at the onset, the victim becomes lightheaded, nauseated, and sometimes vomiting occurs. It’s the same in the Body of Christ; when the leadership of the house is spiritually ill, and deliverance is not sought; the rest of the body becomes affected. Once the leadership gets in order, the Body of Christ will then be empowered to resuscitate, birth, transform, and build; walking in Apostolic dimensions, doing the “greater things” that Christ declared we have the power to do.
